AC Replacement Systems
Let’s face it: the last thing you want to think about is replacing your home’s air conditioning system. But we all know that in southwest Florida, air conditioning is something you just cannot live without, especially in the summer time.
What Size Unit is Right for My Home?
Correct unit sizing is essential for proper de-humidification and temperature control. Obviously, an air conditioner that’s too small won’t keep your home sufficiently cool. But what many don’t realize is that an over-sized system will cycle (turn on and off) more than necessary, not properly remove humidity from the home, wasting expensive energy and put undue wear and tear on the compressor. Many older homes have insufficient duct sizing for today’s new high efficient air conditioning unit causing unit breakdowns, equipment sweating from poor airflow and indoor air quality issues.

Six Signs It's Time to Replace Your Air Conditioner
- Air conditioner is more than 10 years old. In general, you can expect a well-maintained air conditioner to last about 10 years. However, if you're in need of expensive repairs and your air conditioner is more than 10 years old, it will make more sense to replace your unit than repair it. Especially if you consider the advancements in efficiency over the past decade.
- Air conditioner is inefficient. If your air conditioner has a low SEER rating, it can cost you a lot of money to operate. Upgrading your current unit to a high efficient unit can greatly reduce your home's energy cost.
- You're facing expensive repairs. Any time you're facing an expensive repair, you'll want to weigh the costs of the repair against the costs of a new unit. If the cost to repair would cover a large part of a new system, and especially if your air conditioner is showing any of the other signs on this list, then it would make more financial sense to replace it.
- Frequent breakdowns. Does your air conditioner seem to constantly breakdown? Are you calling every month because of a new problem? These repair costs can really add up, and it doesn't make sense keep putting money into an old unit. Save yourself the headaches and the money by inventing in a new system.
- Air conditioner uses R-22 Freon. Freon is being phased out by federal mandate and as a result, the cost of R-22 Freon is rising exponentially. If your air conditioner uses Freon, you'll have to replace it eventually in order to switch to the new R-410A refrigerant. If you're having major problems with your air conditioner, especially if it requires Freon, it's probably a good time to replace your unit.
- Your home isn't comfortable. Do you have a hard time keeping your home cool? This could be a sign of an aging air conditioner or even an incorrectly sized system. Regardless of the cause, if it's not going to keep your home cool, you'll want to replace it with a unit that will.
